Members' Update
Saturday 2 December 2023

Dear Grace,

Course Works Update

Whilst the wet has hampered some work, work nonetheless proceeded with OCM moving into areas that the weather did not hamper results, accordingly the old 12th hole, that was being used for practice, is now part of the works zone and unfortunately no longer available for member play.  This week OCM have reported to us the following progress:

  • Shaping has commenced on the new double green (new 12th & 18th green). As this develops it will become quite apparent what a feature this will be in front of the Members lounge.
  • The old billabong is filled and drainage has commenced on the new 17th hole (old 14th).
  • OCM have continued to lower mounding around the old practice fairway helping to create the fairway linkages and the new 18th hole pathway through the old practice fairway.
  • Tee positions have been pegged on the new 12th and 18th holes.
  • The old 13th green has been stripped and donated to Maryborough Golf Club.
  •  The old 12th hole has been taken out of play so that sand harvesting may commence.
As OCM have dismantled the old greens, it has been interesting to see the inconsistencies in the green profiles. The greens have had varied sand depths, poor drainage, inconsistent rock layer with the old 18th green having no rock layer and no drainage. This would have made them very difficult to maintain.

Practice fairway mound removal and clay harvesting which will become the 18th hole path and fairway linkages.   These will be shaped to suit the appropriate aesthetics.

Water Storage

  • Good progress was made on excavating the new water storage and filling the old one.
  •  Drainage has commenced on fairways that lead to the dam.

Dam works continued despite the rain, it is safe to say the old 15th doesn't exist in any form now.

A depression is created on the left of the dozer that will collect rain to be pumped out.

Dam filling during the week - Southern end, the slurry is mixed with soils and moved on to the banks to dry.

Dam filling during the week, it consists of moving endless piles of dirt, mixing and harvesting soils as it progresses.

Old 12th hole closed - now out of play - no entry

The 12th hole has now been closed for OCM to begin work on the hole to harvest the sand.

Cranbourne Next Milestone payment received

The next milestone of the Cranbourne Country Club Agreement has been made with the Club receiving the second deposit, this makes a total of $3.3 million received. This payment is a result of the milestone being achieved of commencing the course works with OCM.

Staff Gratuity

Huntingdale has always been extremely fortunate to have a loyal and dedicated staff who pride themselves in providing the highest level of service to our Members and their guests.

Yet again, this year our staff have been terrific in the way they have served our membership remaining loyal and working extra or different duties due to the ever changing work environment.

As you would be aware the Club does not allow direct tipping to the staff. Therefore, I invite you to contribute to the Staff Gratuity Fund which recognises the excellent work by all of our staff - administration, house, golf shop and course (excluding senior management who do not participate in this staff gratuity).  In assessing the size of any contribution you may wish to make, I would ask you to reflect on what you would have tipped throughout the year in a similar environment.

Donations may be either sent to the Club with the attached slip, charged to your general account, BPAY, bank transfer, or credit card and placed in the box situated in the bar or handed into or emailed to the office.

I am sure the staff will appreciate your recognition of their work.
